Film Review: Be Kind Rewind

Anyone who has set themselves the challenge of trying to make a film using a linear editing process i.e. your only editing process is the rewind and record buttons, can relate to this film

After Jack Black manages to magnetise himself and then erase all the films in the video store. He and Mos De have to remake all the films to order.

Mostly a funny film and fortunately the shmaltsy ending does not get drawn out, so we get a nice tidy 90 minutes of remaking of RoboCop, Driving Miss Daisy, Ghostbusters and more.

Unfortunately, although the end credits suggest that you can visit the website and see these ‘sweded’ masterpieces, I could only find trailers of them.

So rent, or buy, Be Kind Remind to enjoy the film or check out the official Be Kind Rewind site or the youtube site for some ‘sweded’ splendicity.

I suspect this film will head into cult status and were I younger it would have received a far higher rating – but now I’m old and grumpy so it gets what I give it.

And I give this a 7.5 out of 10 and it brought back happy memories of our own little gangs video challenges – which I hope to God no-one outside our little group ever sees (we know who we are).
